Flow Science performed a detailed modeling analysis of a wastewater overflow to Manhattan Beach and into the adjacent surf zone. The modeling utilized the ELCOM three-dimensional model to simulate plume fate and transport, dilution, bacteria concentrations, and bacteria decay from this discharge of wastewater. The modeling was used to quantify the extent and dilution of the resultant plume, and to simulate bacteria concentrations resulting from the wastewater overflow.
