Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant

City of San Diego, Point Loma, CA

Flow Science investigated in detail the hydraulic profiles in the plant’s chlorine contact basins, discharge structures, and diffuser at flows up to 600 cfs. Flow Science also performed detailed hydraulic calculations to determine the available head for power generation through an existing turbine. Based on the calculation results, Flow Science proposed modifications to the turbine layout and provided a detailed operational strategy for maximizing power generation. As part of this work, Flow Science also determined safe valve operating times to prevent waterhammer and surges within the plant.
