Sonoma County Water Transmission System Hydraulic Transient Analysis and Surge Protection

Sonoma County Water Agency
Sonoma County, CA

Flow Science performed a hydraulic transient analysis and recommended surge protection measures for the Sonoma County Water Transmission System. The study involved analyzing 76 miles of existing cement mortar lined and coated steel pipe, the diameters of which ranged from 8 to 48 inches. The existing system also consisted of seven pump stations each with capacities of between 3100 gpm and 7000 gpm.

Expansion of the water transmission system was studied in five year buildout increments for more than 20 years. As part of the buildout scenarios, approximately 9 miles of pipe and 6 new pump stations were added to the system. Flow Science also provided surge analysis design software and training to Sonoma County Water Agency.
