Treated Wastewater Discharge Outfall

Chevron USA
El Segundo, CA

A completely new outfall diffuser was designed to accommodate discharges from 6,500 gpm to 65,000 gpm into water 50 ft deep in Santa Monica Bay, CA.

Hydraulic modeling studies were performed to establish the degree of interaction with existing nearby power plant discharges. Model studies were performed to establish the discharge characteristics of the diffuser ports over the range of flows to guarantee no sand backflow into the diffuser. The outfall was approved and is in operation.
